Stone Arches and Stone Lintels

Stone Arches and Stone Lintels

,

We can build both arches and lintels in stone, be it straight segmental lintels, straight cut stone lintels, segmental arches, relief arches, gothic arches, semi-circular arches, camber arches and the list goes on. Using stone to create the arch or lintel means that there is no unsightly steel showing on the underside.

Obviously when a steel arch is specified we can use it but we prefer to build the arch solely from stone. We can also build brick arches and stone arches/lintels can be incorporated into fireplaces ass well as buildings.

Steps Built in Stone

Steps Built in Stone

We can build steps in stone, whether its a front door step, garden steps or a stair case on the side of a house or building we can build it in stone.

Your front door step is the main entrance to your home so as well as stone being robust and hardwearing it also adds character and style.

Car-port, Garage and Rebuilding a Listed House in Ballymena County Antrim

Car-port, Garage and Rebuilding a Listed House in Ballymena County Antrim

A car-port and garage we built using a mix of County Antrim Basalt, Land Stone and Reclaimed Stone in Ballymena. We also rebuilt a house on site which was listed therefore all the stonework had to match what was previously there. To achieve the authentic look we had to choose and mix the stone carefully, preparing samples before work could begin proper and used lime mortar to ensure the work was built as it would have been originally. We used reclaimed red brick for the quoins and heads and used sandstone for the cills. The steps on the outside of the barn have salvaged York Stone treads.

The stonework and the granite cobbles in the courtyard give this project a real authentic look and one would find it hard to tell whether or not the project actually was a new build.

We also carried out some interior work in this project which can be seen in the ‘Fireplaces & Interior’ section of the website.

A dwelling house built from Limestone in Maghera, the cills and lintels are Silver Granite. The arch over the garage door is self supporting and needs no steel lintel underneath.
